Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic in addition to a public speaking Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency, a web site which features video and posts on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic with awards to show for her writing, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency an online platform dedicated to education, which examines gender roles within the world of pop culture, is operated by Sarkeesian. Aiming to break down the stereotypes about women and pop culture she also works to highlight issues related to targeted harassment against women and the other minorities of the Internet environment. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social Thought at York University, is also an extremely sought-after public speaking. She has presented speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She has been interested in female issues as well as feminism from an early age. In 2009, when she was still at the University of Toronto, Sarkeesian created the site Feminist Frequency. An ambitious woman planned to create a web-series to study the role of gender in games. In the end, she came across herself as the victim of an internet harassment campaign. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened her resolve as feminist media critic. For the many contributions she has made to feminism, she is awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and founded Feminist Frequency An non-profit educational organization that studies the representation of women in popular culture.
